Should you always remove Gimble lock before turning you phantom on? Would it be necessary to have it on when doing a compass calibration?

When in doubt ... check the manual

Don't even power it on with the gimbal lock attached.

When the phantom is powered on, it tries to move the gimbal around as part of it's startup test.
If the lock is in place, the gimbal can't move and it can damage the motors.
Sweet. My pc is acting weird and won't download the complete manual. Only a few pages at a time. It took a solid hour for it to fully load.

A helpful tip -- if you attach a key chain (like this one) to your gimbal lock, it'll help you remember to remove it.
