Getting still images

Now that my piloting skills have improved past "absolute beginner" status, I'm not thinking about ways to make my videos the best they can be.

And I also have an interest in still photography. For those of you who do stills:

- Do you set your GoPro to take a still every 2 seconds or whatever, and just buzz around?

- Or, do you always shoot video, and grab a frame of video as a still?

I shoot 4k video in pro-tune and then grab frames. The picture quality is actually better than setting it to take a still ever 2 seconds etc.
Munches through sd cards like crazy though.
