I bought a box of these (minimum purchase is a dozen, I think) for next to no money from Oriental Trading. They are these party/Halloween gizmos which you put in your mouth that light up. A young gal at work refers to them as "mosh mouths". On Oriental Trading just search for "Flashing teeth." See: http://www.orientaltrading.com/api/sear ... hing+teeth

They are VERY bright, small, incredibly light, and self-powered. I velcro'd two of them to my Phantom - one on the underside facing forward, and one on the battery door facing downwards, and took it out for a daytime stroll.

The belly-mounted strobe was by far the more visible of the two from the ground and as the Phantom flies towards you. It looks awesome and clearly identifies the front of the craft. As an added bonus, if you lose your Phantom in a bush or tree, you ARE going to see it!!!! Don't know how long they last, but the three tiny batteries look to be replaceable! At night the strobe would probably be unbelievably visible.

I took a ten second video of them flashing. If I have a few moments, I'll post it to YouBoob so you can see how truly bright these units are. I'm going to velcro two to my Jumper 600 immediately! Just cut them out of their silicone case and apply velcro. 5 minute mod.

Re: FOUND: Ultra cheap, bright, self-powered strobe for Pha

I am still waiting for my "slowboat from China" to deliver my order of a different light.

Have you weighed your light-battery? I would be curious to compare. The 1.5 gms of the my strobe does not include the wiring which is going to be a BEC and 4-5 inches of wire.

3.5 grams including velcro. For all practical matters, weightless.

I also have a Phantom "headlight" - an ultra-bright LED array which literally is blindingly bright, even in daytime. It is powered off of the balance port and supposedly does not shorten the flight time. I have to agree...if it does it is imperceptible. Stupid, I know, but I love the looks of the headlight and flashing light combo, and use them both every time I fly.

I have the light you describe below and agree that it is "blindingly bright". I like the idea of self-powered lights but haven't yet found one that is genuinely bright in daylight. Any chance you could video the "mouth lights" in flight in daytime?

Thanks!

Nice find PF!

I also bought the same headlight, just arrived today in fact. I ordered it from Amazon, cost a few extra bucks but I had it in my (impatient) hands in 48 hours: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C4U ... UTF8&psc=1

I'm still looking at options for an additional self-contained (w/power) LED strobe, I'm anxious to see what the one you found looks like in daytime.

How long did shipping take? About? Did they come on a slow boat from China? :)

Just on the curious side of things... but isn't there an extra connector port inside the phantom 3? I've been seeing a lot of stuff for the vision, vision 2, etc... on amazon and didn't know if some of the stuff they have would work out for the phantom 3. Running external LED lights takes very little consumption of battery to run, but before I go opening up the phantom I just would like to be sure...
