FAA registration for an N number

Hmmmm... I just got back from the Washington DC FSDO, and when I told the lady there what I was trying to do, she just gave me the 8050-1. They are making this needlessly painful.

I guess you're supposed to know that the 8050-88 would help. Never would have known unless I made the call. Unless it's ont he website somewhere...

Both my P2V+ & P3 are registered. When I did my P2V+, it was a PIA. Now they have the info on the web. It seemed like they were really trying to make it easier.
Aircraft Registry – Aircraft Registration: Unmanned Aircraft (UA)
I got the 8050-1 form. Filled it out. I then typed out all the bullets in word for registration & then filled out the info the bullets asked for as far as:

A full description of the UA provided by the manufacturer or builder in a Notarized statement is required when the UA model is not produced under a U.S. Type Certificate.
UA Required Description Items
  • Full Legal Name of UA Manufacturer or Builder
  • UA Model Designation
  • UA Serial Number
  • Class (Airplane, Airship, Rotorcraft, Gyroplane, Ducted Fan)
  • UA Maximum Takeoff Weight
  • Category (Land, Sea, or Both)
  • Name of Engine Manufacturer
  • Engine Model Designation
  • Engine Serial-Numbers (If none shown, enter 'none')
  • Number of Engines
  • Engine Power Output (Given in HP or Lbs. Thrust)
  • Engine Type (2 or 4 Cycle Reciprocating, Electric,
    Turbo - Fan/Prop/Shaft/Jet)
Go through each steps. I even sent in a copy of my bill of sale from UAV Direct along with a photo of the matching SN#. Had it notarized & sent it off. I actually had my new N# within a week.
Good luck.

I just sent my documents for registration yesterday. I sent in the following documents:

· Notarized sUA letter (the description items and sample verbiage)

· Notarized AC Form 8050-88

· Online receipt and packing slip from DJI North America

· AC Form 8050-1

· $5.00 check made to FAA

I'm hoping it goes through without any hitches. Also, correct me if I'm wrong but the pink copy of the 8050-1 is good as a temporary registration? I'm legal to fly commercially? I already have a 333 exemption and a PPL.

My process was pretty much the same, except I didn't get the 8050-88 with the stuff that was sent back. Even the lady I spoke with wasn't sure why I didn't get them. I filled out a contact form on the FAA web site, asking for a copy of the form, got it within a week of the request. And I actually got 2 forms, I guess in case I messed one up. Wanna bet I still was VERY careful filling it out?? lol...

I dropped my revised info in the mail on Tuesday, so we'll see what happens...

well get ready you have to fill out an 8050-88 as well Affidavit of Ownership......it would so nice if the FAA just published a step by step, form by form, list of what one needs to do instead of preparing forms, sending them and and getting turned down with a letter wanting more information - but heck the government can't even fly its own blimps - I don't think a Phantom has every knocked out power for thousands of people - just sayin'

You should be successful - good luck!

According the verbiage on the form - that would be my guess

What is the "engine power output" value? All I can find is kV output?

It's not on the 8050-88, put part of the sUA description they ask you to include.
IE:
  • Full Legal Name of UA Manufacturer or Builder
  • sUA Model Designation
  • sUA Serial Number
  • Class (Airplane, Airship, Rotorcraft, Gyroplane, Ducted Fan)
  • sUA Maximum Takeoff Weight
  • Category (Land, Sea, or Both)
  • Name of Engine Manufacturer
  • Engine Model Designation
  • Engine Serial-Numbers (if none shown, enter 'none')
  • Number of Engines
  • Engine Power Output (given in HP or Lbs. Thrust)
  • Engine Type (2 or 4 Cycle Reciprocating, Electric,
    Turbo - Fan/Prop

This is what I put:

· Full Legal Name of UA Manufacturer or Builder – DJI

· sUA Model Designation – Phantom 3 Professional

· sUA Serial Number – xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

· Class – Rotorcraft UAS

· sUA Maximum Takeoff Weight – 1300g

· Category - Land

· Name of Engine Manufacturer - DJI

· Engine Model Designation – 2312A

· Engine Serial-Numbers - none

· Number of Engines - 4

· Engine Power Output – 960KV

· Engine Type - Electric

There is no section on the 8050-88 for engine output, I just looked. So I have no idea what you'd put there...
Tha info is not needed on the 8050-88 - it asks for manufacturer / serial # , # of engines - the FAA in their letter to me said to put 'No manufacturer or model #" under manufacturer / serial 3 of each engine - form went through just fine

Thanks for the info guys. Sent my paperwork out today. Fingers crossed!

And the FAA wants all model aircraft registered by the end of the year......
LOL - Har-de-har

I wonder if the rouge blimp was register :>)
Yes, it was. It's a military aircraft and each branch of the military maintains their own aircraft registry.

Well I thought i did everything right and followed all the directions from the FAA and posted here...but got a letter back from the FAA that I hadn't included an affidavit with the name and address of the seller...which I did but mysteriously wasn't returned. It was an Amazon receipt with proof of delivery as well as a notarized statement as required by the FAA. But now they also want this...

A full description of the UA provided by the manufacturer, builder or applicant in a Notarized statement.

How have others dealt with this when requesting their N numbers or did I just luck out on the examiner who opened the envelope? Also tried to call the FAA for help but ' due to the high volume of calls we have received we cannot accept your call at the moment." click.

So..where did I go wrong. Oh..the letter also said " United States registration number N has been assigned" Huh?

Andrew
Out of curiosity what did you put down for:
  • Name of Engine Manufacturer
  • Engine Model Designation
  • Engine Serial-Numbers (if none shown, enter 'none')
  • Number of Engines
  • Engine Power Output (given in HP or Lbs. Thrust)
  • Engine Type (2 or 4 Cycle Reciprocating, Electric,
    Turbo - Fan/Prop/Shaft/Jet)
I have a Phantom 3 Pro and I am looking for that information. Thanks

  • Like
Reactions: volito
  • Name of Engine Manufacturer DJI Innovations
  • Engine Model Designation DJI model # DJI-PH3-PO7
  • Engine Serial-Numbers (if none shown, enter 'none') none
  • Number of Engines 4
  • Engine Power Output (given in HP or Lbs. Thrust) No information provided by manufacturer other than each engine (motor) is rated at 960Kv
  • Engine Type (2 or 4 Cycle Reciprocating, Electric,
    Turbo - Fan/Prop/Shaft/Jet) Electric
BUT if you have the newer Phantom 3P the Engine model number will have changed and the motor rating in Kv may have changed so check that out.

My letter (first rejection) pertaining to the affidavit said to enter manufacturer unknown pertaining to all the items above - except # engines (4) -- did not enter any output information - said engines were electric - I received a second letter telling me I put the wrong info for Name I put my name instead of DJI (DUH) - but the form was not really clear as to what info was required , when i called and finally got through to the FAA they helped me out and allow me to correct the notarized affidavit and resubmit - I now have an N#

How long did your whole process take to get your N number? Just curious because I sent my paperwork in this week.
