It seems that on February 28th of this year, the FAA's authority to collect information on the form located at Request a Waiver/Airspace Authorization – Small Unmanned Aircraft System (sUAS) specifically for Airspace Authorization has expired per the OMB. They have applied for a new one and was published in the Federal Register on March 2nd However, the comment period doesn't expire until April 3rd.

What does this mean for airspace authorizations? I'm not sure. Does data collected after Feb 28th not count? If not, how does a pilot apply for an airspace authorization? Anyone heard from the FAA on this?

This DOES NOT apply to data collection for waivers, which is a completely different animal. That OMB number doesn't expire until 2019.

Here is what the site says specifically, "You are not required to respond to this collection of information unless it displays a valid OMB control number."

Airspace Authorizations under 14 CFR Part 107
OMB Control Number: 2120-0768
Expiration Date: 02/28/2017

Here is a link to the Federal Register where the renewal is posted for public comment:

Just another example of how this whole waiver/airspace authorization process is still jacked up. I could see this as a double-edged sword. No, you are not required to provide the information, but if you don't, we won't approve your airspace authorization. Weird.
