If I fly around a lighthouse will I lose connection when the Phantom is on the backside?
If so, would it go into "return home" mode?

Maybe. It depends on many things. Is this a P2 Vision or a regular P2? The P2 is more likely to work around the lighthouse. How close will you be to the lighthouse?

If so, would it go into "return home" mode?

It should. Read the manual carefully about the details. The behavior is:

• 
  1) Hover for a few seconds
  2) If the Phantom altitude is lower than 20m above the home point's altitude, go straight up to 20m above home point's altitude. If Phantom is >20m above home point's altitude, stay there.
  3) Fly in a straight line above home point.
  4)Hover over home point for 15s
  5) Land.

If the anything is in the way of the Phantom while any of this happens, the Phantom will run into it.

if possible record the home position to one side, not the side you will be filming, this way if you loose connection it wont fly into the lighthouse if its over 20 m
