Does this motor area crack need to be repaired?

No I can't guarantee that but it's a known problem that the P3s crack and I believe they've replaced the body of others that have been sent it for warranty work. Somebody else might want to chime in.
 
Mine developed cracks after 199 very gentle flights. DJI got it back to me in a couple weeks. I'm disappointed that they only replaced the bottom half with a new first generation crappy shell. Now I'll constantly be bugged waiting for new cracks. It will likely be off warranty by then.
 
It's been pointed out in other threads that most P3 owners don't get cracks. Also, the theory is the cracks are likely caused by screws that are too tight. Maybe the plastic can be an issue too, but I suspect if the screws have the correct torque you'll be okay.
