DJI FC40 Motor Upgrade

Forgive me with this question, I am new at this quadcopter thing! I just upgraded my FC40 to the MN 2214 motors. Can I use the stock props until I get the upgrades in? Also when doing a run up without props, they make a serious whine, is that normal?
