DJ6 radio does't connect to RC Assistant Software

Question, should I be able to connect a DJ6 (v1) radio to the RC Assistant software? My dad has other phantoms that connect to the software but they are all vision pluses. This is the first "older" setup he got and I can't get the software to identify the radio. Thoughts? I'm using the 1.1 software, is there a different software to use for the v1 radios?
