I left my P3 as 1.1.8.
A message appeared on my Note 4 to check for updates. I ignored and cancelled it as I'm not ready.
I went through my settings 2 hours later to find that my firmware is 1.1.9.

Don't tell me DJI is shoving firmwares down our throats...

Uh-Oh...

You have to use the SD card to install firmware updates. There's no way DJI forced an update to the aircraft itself. My P3 was delivered to me earlier this week and already had 1.1.9 installed on it. The first time I opened the app, it said to check for a firmware update, but when I checked the firmware, it was 1.1.9 already.

How do you check the firmware on the DJI app?

DJI pilot app > top right corner is 4 dotted icon > scroll down to about

I have done the 1.0.8 bin (1.1.8 firmware) update before. I am well aware of the update process as my unit was nagging me for an update. The bin file is still left on the SD card.
