Connection issues with camera - specific problem info

I am very tempted to sell this one and buy a phantom four if I'm going to need to invest to make this one work again.

Hopefully that's not the case though.

I picked up a Camera unit from ebay for $125.00...should be here by Tuesday next week. I also tried about 15 different apps for iPhone..none of them seem to pick up the phantom as a network. But luckily I have the android app that finds it perfectly. What I find funny is that my iphone finds the Phantom Network and can connect to it, but the apps don't show it at all.

Yeah my iPhone connects to it also. But I do have access to an android tablet now so I'll try that. Any apps that don't cost $10 since I'll be using it once probably.

I can confirm that it is the wifi in my case....I remembered when I replaced a camera last year..I kept the old one....The problem with it was that I was not getting a picture....I got all info except the picture, so I figured something was wrong with the camera. Last night I decided to take both cameras apart. The wifi in the old camera was good as I saw it on my tablet in the analyzer. after carefully taking apart everything and putting in separate containers...I started checking parts. I started with the wifi board, the 2nd & 3rd board..then took the camera and board from the existing one and got everything working. Through process of elimination here is what I found.
Camera 1- replaced last year on other vision due to no picture
1. wifi board & antennas worked perfectly
2. 2nd board on top of that worked fine
3. 3rd Board..the one that you plug everything into and has the switch was good
4. 4th Board-the board for the camera was bad
5. Camera works perfectly on other board

Camera 2- Currently no wifi
1. All components except wifi working perfectly

Hey Guys,
mI've heard a lot on bricked stuff due to updates. And that is possible here as well ( I guess? ) , I believe the update only allows you to use extender as a network, But let's look at it from a technical standpoint, and see what is the problem ( camera, or extender or both )

First
You need to download a wifi analyzer ( some are free ) I use ( android InSSIDer app 10$ ) but any will due as long as it can trace hidden wifi networks.
Ok
Open analyzer app ( we looking for a 2.4ghz signature starting with ( 60:60:1f:??:??:?? ) ?'s are your personal Mac addy numbers last 6 digits, 60:60:1f is DJI's unique signature ) ok With fc200 camera set to wifi on, turn ONLY phantom on, no Tx, No extender. Don't worry bout the flashing yellow lights ( means no Tx signal ) now scan for wifi ( check for signal and signal strength ) strength should be almost spiked! If you see the signature ( 60:60:1f gimmick ) and it is strong, then your camera wifi board is ok, and would point all fingers to extender issue ( you can test extender wifi with analyzer as well ) just turn on extender test for 60:60:1f:??:??:?? ) should match number on rear of extender, and should be fairly strong. Still won't tell you if it's transmitting though, but possibly a new extender will fix the problem, if camera all looks good in analyzer. But test those and let us know!

Take care, Fly safe.

Using a Wi-Fi analyzer the hidden signal from the Phantom on both my Vision and Vision Plus randomly (about every 5 to 30 seconds) goes from no output (-95db) to full output (between-19 and -22db on the Vision plus). It never gets FPV for the short time the signal is on. The signal from the extender on the transmitter stays on all of the time as it should. Both quadcopters worked fine until the firmware update. Both have same symptom of no FPV video feed to tablet with everything else including taking pictures and video to SD card working fine. Both have different style cameras although the electronics may be the same in both. I also tried Litchi app on both quadcopters with same results so it appears the firmware upgrade bricked both units.

DJI should take responsibility for causing this fault and take steps to correct it. From this forum it appears this happened starting in January, it's 6 months later and nothing has been done about it. I just took both units out of storage about a week ago to pass one along to my grandson (Vision was stored away when I got the Vision Plus and Vision Plus was stored away when I got a P3). I did upgrades to latest firmware and software and apparently upgrade is still bricking units. Firmware upgrade should have been removed from site as soon as problems were found. All worked well before upgrade so it was not a necessary upgrade.

Yes
I'm finding the people who were prompted to upgrade extender, and have done so, find their camera wifi board, or power board burn out on the egg fc200 camera, and on the plus version fc200 , I'm finding, it is burning gimbal mainboards.
Not sure why or how, unless it somehow changed the voltage causing circuitry burnout? Very strange! So my advice is DO NOT UPDATE, app, or extenders!
I have 9 phantoms ( visions and vision pluses ) some of mine sit for a while, but I never update or upgrade, and all mine have never had FPV issues other than problem when I purchased them and/or fixed them! My oldest one sat for a year, extender was completely dead, I charged everything up ( had to rebind? ) but all works! Some I'm sure are just normal wear and tear. But this update is s legitimate issue!

Sucks!

The problem is..that the DJI IOS app makes you update before you can do much of anything in the app itself. This time I just left it on the screen while I did a test on the video feed. It is strange as the Android app does not even want to upgrade the extender. The whole issue I have is that I use the IOS app on iPhone to fpv ,along with the Goggle/fpv unit from HobbyKing...I simply strap my phone on the end once hovering. Other than that I use Litchi or DJI Ultimate App on the Android devices. Yes DJI really needs to take responsibility for bricking these units, it is costing people money.

FWIW:
I am having the SAME exact problem as stated above with my Phantom 2 Vision. Took it out of storage yesterday and fired everything back up. Everything was working 100% before storage and came on as normal. When I went into the app and clicked Camera, that is when everything stopped working.

I could actually see the camera feed perfectly and then the Update message came on over the screen. So I clicked okay and since then I've had intermittent issues ranging from no Phantom_XXXXXX network showing up to not being able to connect to it when it does show up. I rebinded 100 times and still the same problem.

Interesting to note that when I hit the rebind button on the RE, I can find the Phantom_XXXXXX network EVERY TIME. And as long as I don't rebind it's there for me. Once I rebind, it disappears and randomly comes back. Mostly never though.

Also, for IOS, there's an app called Airport Utility from Apple that let's you scan for WIFI networks. I can NEVER find my camera network but can find my RE network when I am binding or at other random times.

If you need help with the App or anything let me know. Just download it for free and go into Settings on your iPhone, Airport Utility and enable WIFI scanning. Then go back into the app and you can start scanning.

The update ABSOLUTELY killed my phantom. Please someone post a fix or tell me how to reverse the update. Thanks.

So far,
We found, repair camera ( wifi board and or power board ) use new extender, problem solved. It is somehow causing burnout in the cameras!
( I have a spare camera I'm willing to trash, to see if extender TRUELY does brick the cameras ) to ultimately find out if you can just repair camera, or is the extender garbage as well, and will just keep bricking whatever camera you link to it?
I do know 100% that a new wifi board, and a couple had bad power boards ( not my findings ), but repaired camera linked to brand new ( non updated ) extender works!
But requires repair or replace!
Just hate to see someone buy a new camera, link it only to have same results, because of faulty extender!

My next question

? Is this only re500 extenders doing this or are the re700 doing it as well?
I've upgraded all 9 of mine all to re700 extenders and have NEVER been asked to update?
So is it possible only the re500 extenders are the problem?
Please let me know?
I'm trying to get my hands on a camera and extender ( that has this issue ) to see what is going on , but so far no dice.
I'm going off what you guys are telling me!
I will get a set sooner or later, then maybe we can get an answer?

J Dot

I have a friend who has this same issue, so I sent him a working fc200 camera egg, and a new re700 extender to test with ( ultimately ) he might send me his old stuff to work on, then maybe we can find a more definitive answer or repair!

No chance I'm paying them money to fix an issue they created.
Has anyone spoken/emailed DJI about this yet? Have there been any responses? I've opened a ticket but haven't received a response yet.

J Dot

My Vision has an RE500 extender and my Vision Plus has an RE700 extender, both have same problem after firmware update.

That makes a bit more sense, as I'm finding a LOT of mainboard burnout, as well as wifi burnout on the plus!
So seem to be similar burnouts in both camera units!

Like a self destruct protocol!

Hummmmmmmm!

I'll have to dig deeper, which version app is this coming from? iOS vision app only?

Both of mine are RE700's...I can tell you it took out the wifi board on mine...everything else works fine...luckily I had another camera...that the wifi was working but camera board went out. It is coming from DJI Vision ios app, the latest version...It did not ask to update until last week when I updated the ios app on my phone....The android app never asked to update and works fine.

So you replaced the camera but used same extender?

Please let me know, Thanks!

I am using the same Re700 and replaced just the wifi board and antennas from other camera that had a bad camera board. BTW The version that is causing the issue the latest 1.0 58, dated june 13,2016. I plugged my iPhone into computer using ITunes, to see if had an earlier backup...I don't and I looked in the store and it's only showing 1.0.58 for download...going to research to see how I can get back to earlier version. It seems DJI has moved all the support pages from their main website for the P1 & P2 series. I am not sure if I can use the video link in this thread as I have uninstalled and reinstall the latest version a couple of times.

Mine were both caused by Android app. After damage was done I tried it with other Android tablets and with iOS app- still did not work.

Here you go I've already done all that

Here are the codes to all the versions

Ok
Now I've compiled the numbers and placed them with APP versions and dates for you: ( you can search the app in iTunes, and search versions, and what each version has or has added ) too much typing for me, but this will help:

J Dot Thank you so much for the video...followed it and now I can FPV again with my iPhone...I just went back 1 version and it is working perfectly!!! :) I hope DJI acknowledges that their update is bricking the wifi boards. BTW I went back to 815735194

Thanks

Good Show Helos360,
That is GREAT news! Hopefully they do acknowledge it, and either fix the issue, or delete that version all together! Keeping fingers crossed!
