The DJI specks in the chart say the filter is not removable on the Advanced. The phantom pilots chart says it is removable so ND filters can be used. So knowing I'm about to order ND filters I thought I'd better check to make sure I can install them.
I've read on this forum, that many have had difficulty removing the ring. I just discovered it won't come off if you squeeze too tight. Some suggest wrapping your index finger around for better grip. It unthreaded nicely when I simply used a light grip with my finger tips.

It is removable. The key is to use as little pressure as possible -- while gripping it so it does not slide in your fingers. It's very fragile.
