I put together the first proto of this last week and found it a bit unwieldy. The length, which was needed for focusing, was reduced considerably by mounting a magnifier inside the eyepiece for this second prototype. The magnifier, which reduces the focal length, consists of a pair of reading glasses with the temples removed.
The idea here is to expand the idea of a hood by creating a mini "darkroom" to allow viewing the device in bright sunlight with no reflections. LOS flying is easily accomplished as well as FPV.
The eyepiece is taken from a pair of inexpensive VR goggles with headstraps removed. The box is constructed of 4mm foamboard using hot glue. The hinged door on the front allows picking items from the app menu and then swings closed to preclude ambient light. The weight of the eyepiece and box combined is about seven ounces. The tablet slides in from the front and then is held in the box by the standard DJI device holder.
I wear bifocals (Varilux) which work well in combination with the reading glasses mounted inside the eyepiece.
