Ok, I've seen a few threads here, but none have helped yet.

Just picked up a P4 and I'm trying to connect my Samsung Tab A to the drone. So far, the only thing that works is to plug in the USB and reboot the device, at which point it automatically loads DJI Go.

There's no other method that connects the device to the drone, and I can't run Litchi. If I force stop DJO Go and start Litchi, it simply won't connect.

In USB debug mode, the options I've got are Transferring Media Files, Transferring Images, Connecting MIDI Devices, and None.

None of those options work for Litchi.

HELP!

Forgot to ask is it new first time set up or has it been flown before

I think the problem is when you first launched the app you had the option of selecting DJI go or litchi. At that point the option was

Choose once

Choose always

You may have chosen always. Make sure to clear the casch and in future just select choose once when you launch each app

I did have the tablet connected to a Phantom 3 Standard, but I nuked DJI Go an installed DJI Go 4. I didn't reinstall Litchi - should I?

On the Samsung Tab A, it doesn't give you the option of just once or always for some reason, but you can go and clear defaults in app manager. The problem is that Litchi simply won't connect.

I connected with my Motorola Turbo with 0 issues on Litchi or DJI Go.

I'm having the same android USB issue. My iPad gen 3 works great except for screen brightness. So I purchased an android tablet with an OLED display.

It's a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8" with 32 GB internal and installed it with a 256 GB U3 SD. Apparently the S2 has 4 GB of ram.

First weirdness occurred after first connecting a USB cable between the Tab and the DJI controller. A window would pop up briefly from the bottom of the screen containing three app icons and instructions to select one. Problem was the pop up window never stayed up long enough to select the DJI app. The window persistently cycled between open and close. Had to unplug the cable to stop the behavior.

After closing all apps and power cycling the Tab I reconnected the cable, opened DJI Go 4 and everything seemed to work including camera feed. But that is the only time it worked. Subsequent attempts failed. For example, I swapped the Samsung 6' USB cable for a 12" Best Buy special and the DJI app failed to connect. Went back to the Samsung cable and it failed again. But reconnecting the iPad to the DJI controller worked fine.

I put the Tab into "developer mode" and noticed about 6 USB configuration options without an auto-detect/configure mode. So my project for tomorrow is determine what USB mode the DJI controller uses and see if there is a compatible mode setting on the Tab that needs to be selected.

Alternatively, it could be the manner in which Samsung custom modified & configured the Marshmallow (6.0.1) android OS vs rooting the device and upgrading the Tab to the latest version of Nougat (whatever that may be.)

I also did an online chat this afternoon with Samsung Support who "claimed" the Tab S2 was not compatible with DJI. But when pressed to provide links to anything documenting the purported incompatibility, Samsung suggested I call their voice support specialists; which I'll also do tomorrow.

I'm in trial & error mode at this point. So if someone's already solved this and is willing to share a solution it would be greatly appreciated.

Yeh my tab window like that goes before i touch it but does select right app

I suspect the USB mode is an unusual one since when my Tab E succeeds in connecting, it is Charge Only. There's only about 3 other USB choices in developer section. I suspect RC is connecting as serial adapter but in reverse. Usually the B side of USB would be the serial device, not the A side.
When the tab doesn't connect the USB mode shows MTP and won't change. I can select another option but goes right back to MTP.
I think DJI does something unorthodox that they get away with in many environments but some systems don't know what to do with it.
I was able to clear automatically choosing GO when RC connects.
Problem is, there seems to be a short time for the RC and app to sync that the choice dialog messes it up.

Try linking it this way (always works for me)

Turn on drone

Turn on controller

Plug USB in controller

Plug other side into tablet

This is the only way I get it to work for me personally

Okay, appears to be mode setting. From another thread on the forum here is what appears to be the solution:

1. Once you have USB plugged into Remote, plug into phone (tablet in our case);

2.drag the notifications bar down, you'll see one notification that says "Connected for Charging touch for other USB Options. Touch that.

3. then you see 5 options. The one at the bottom is "Charging" which is automatically selected. The one above it is "Connecting midi devices" so you want to select that.

This, purportedly, allows the DJ Go App to connect with the phone (or tablet).

Link to the thread is:

Professional - DJI Go app won't connect to RC after updated to1.3.2

I suspected it was a USB mode issue. I further suspect that the updated android DJI Go app (for the Phantom 4 in my case) defectively fails to set the correct USB mode on the tablet so it can actually communicate and exchange instructions with the Controller.

Alternatively, from Settings => Developer Options => USB Options you can select "Midi" directly from the configuration window.

I intend to test both options.

USB Configuration lists the following selectable modes:

Charging
MTP (Media Transfer Protocol)
PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol)
RDNIS (USB Ethernet)
Audio Source
MIDI

One other consideration is to make sure that whatever USB cable you use is wired for both power AND data. <rant> I wish to god that everyone would follow the same guidelines for cable production and build for both power & data instead of pinching pennies (literally) to squeeze more profit.</rant>

Update: TL;DR: On my particular device, and having tried multiple cables, and multiple USB modes, and on-device diagnostics suggest that Samsung's SM-T713 implementation of the android OS does not provide for reliable USB connectivity other than charging, and storage device emulation.

I enabled OEM Unlock on the tablet and attempted to root the device from a VMware Win 7 virtual machine without success. I suspect that Sampson's Windows USB drivers (which would have provided for Download mode connectivity between the VM and the Galaxy Tab S2) are not backwards compatible (to Win 7) as the device driver installations on the Win 7 VM fail. Okay, not okay.

So, the next phase of this painful exercise is to acquire an actual Windows laptop (probably a Surface Pro 4 running the latest version of Windows natively and try rooting the tablet again.

News at 11.

I haven't tried MIDI but when my TAB E doesn't connect, it jumps back to MTP when I try others.
When I do manage to get it to connect, it shows the mode as Charge Only.
I have only two ways I can get my Tab to connect:
Reboot my Tab while physically connected to the RC with the cable that came with the P3
Powercycle the RC several times until it finally connects. Best when done in Go home screen and AC powered on so the RC can link to it.
Once RC and tab are linked, I can power off/on the AC as needed. If I physically disconnect the RC from the tab, I am back to square one.

Come to think of it, I think I did try MIDI. Definitely tried RDNS as I've seen one post suggested.

My Tab A works at connecting the way that Neon Euc uses. Also I only get one chance at DJI GO 4 or Litchi. After that it default to my selection. If I choose Litchi I need to re-install DJI GO 4 in order to get that selection window again. Frustrating
