Black pearl choosing pinwheel over helix?

I'm 99% sure I've seen this question posted before! but I couldn't find it now...

Last night I installed everything and did a bench test - looks good except the BP selects the pinwheel antenna as the best signal instead of the helix (fpvlr set) - even when I pointed the helix directly at the VTX.

Is that since I was so close to the vtx and actually flying will give different results?

I did swap rx's and now the helix was chosen - I didn't swap back to see what happened. I'll try to test more over the weekend.
