I have not seen a recent solution to this limitation problem in the DJI GO app.

Doing photos of fall colors in the Rockies over the weekend, it became clear that the 400' limit was becoming a problem. Launching at the bottom of an aspen grove growing on a steep mountainside, I would quickly hit the 400' max, yet still be less than 100' AGL, with another 1,000 feet of aspen above me. Launching at the top of the mountain is not an option.

Is there an override on the current DJI GO, or perhaps Litchi to allow for safe and legal flying under these circumstances?

Thanks.

You can set the Max Altitude in DJI Go to 500m AGL. Than if you are flying up the side of the mountain you should never technically exceed the 400' legal limit AGL, even if you are over 400' above your take-off point.
