App Store for Drones - why they are badly needed

What the author is trying to say is that it should be opensource.
DJI has already made the first step with the SDK, which should enable developers to make various software for DJI products.
Hardware is a different story.

Agreed, The DJI SDK is an important step. However, distribution of the apps developed using the DJI SDK is crucial. Imagine if Apple released an SDK for the iPhone and then told developers - 'you figure out how to get people to download your app!' Instead they provide the App Store to create a consistent way to download and monetize apps.
