Aircraft disconnected message

Phantom 3s fairly new to this today the phantom went out of sight I got message on DJI go app stating aircraft disconnected the screen went blank I was able to see the rth but wasn't able to make it do anything this went on for about a minute but seemed like an hour of panic, eventually I got screen on and was able to activate the rth, what's the correct procedure in this case, should I have turned off the transmitter or flicked the s2

You have RTH on screen as well on RC through S2. Obviously if screen is down and you want to force RTH, you got to use RC.

What's your setting for smart Rathod in case of connection lost?
