Advance v Pro - Camera Options

One other consideration that I have come aware of is that the live feed to the iPad or phone that you use is much lower quality on the advanced (2mbs vs 10 Mbps) than on pro, I'm probably going back to a pro based on this... The advanced is totally usable but it is a big difference in quality
My thoughts, too.

Welcome specialist!

The answer to your question lies within your expected usage of the P3? (Recreationally / professionally)

Also, think about your editing / viewing capabilities. (I personally, upgraded both after getting my first pro - But I still recorded in 4K prior to this)

I will be (officially) operating commercially in the UK very soon (which is why I chose the route I did)

I live in Dorset (near / overlook sandbanks), there is no such thing as a "boring" flight around here, the Jurassic coast is all around me & the new forest is a short drive too, so I have always wanted to capture footage as best as possible on my P3 (regardless of it's intended use)

My next investments are inspires (more so for commercial reasons)

The P3's (adv / pro) are bang on the £ for their capabilities.

Thanks All, initially it will be for recreational but would like the option to do more if possible. I purchased a Cheerson CX-20 as a practice drone but it's smashed to bit  it was hard to control and did not cope well in the winds. I'm confident these DJI will be easier.

I just need to stop looking at the Yuneec Q500 4k .. as this looks appealing and you get quite a bit for your money .. I don't suppose anyone has tried or has both of these ? I heard it's slower and doesn't cope well in the wind. I think i'll persuade my housemate to get Q500 :D

Phantoms are much easier to fly than any of the smaller quadcopters that don't use GPS.

Hi everybody!
Specialist, i have you very same dilemma, and what i'm unsure of is the video bitrate of the two.
I fear the the pro has an higher bitrate (60 Mbps vs 40 Mbps) that means more informations also using Full HD setting (that it will be probably my favourite settings for video).
So far i can't find it this difference exists or the higher bitrate is because the 4k capability...
Pro has higher live view bitrate capabilities, which gives you better images when using FPV goggles.

Actually you can adjust the live feed on both the pro or advanced.
The pro and advanced are identical with just the pro having a 4K option and a 100W charger.
Most people do not shoot or edit in 4K and 4K televisions are nowhere near ubiquitous yet. 2.7k on the advanced is beyond what most people would want anyway.

Every person that I know who purchased a pro said they wish they just got the advanced and kept the extra money or used it on another battery, etc.

When shooting in 4K, you have some room to crop the video if needed. For example, my lens filter wasn't pushed flush and the filter showed up in the corners of some of my video. Luckily, I shot it in 4K, so I was able to crop it out.

I love my Pro ;)

Thanks Davphys, i tend to agree with your thoughts, and 4K for me would mean at least a new pc, etc etc.
As far as you know, the bitrate when shooting Full HD is the same between the two, advanced and pro?
I'll gladly save the extra euros for filters, battery, etc etc..

I'm not saying people don't like their Pro! I'm just saying that few people will find the extra need for 4K worth it when all else is equal.

The bitrate is the same. It is completely adjustable in the app settings.

Even with a new pic to edit 4K video- where would you display it? On a 4K television that isn't commonplace yet? Most people with a pro don't shoot in 4K because they can't watch in 4K anyway.

Maybe in a couple years but by then the Phantom 4 or 5 will be out and will be better anyway.

I completely agree with you, although the point of msinger , to be able to "zoom" and crop the 4k footage is correct.
Now i'm way ore prone to get an advanced...

My Advanced purchase took my current equipment into consideration. TV is 2 yrs old, 1080p. PC is a newer laptop that is 2.7K.
and powerful enough to edit 1080p media. Neither are going anywhere form the foreseeable future, so my Advanced is
perfect for my 'hobbyist' needs. When I finally get a UHD TV, if I'm still active in the hobby (and if the hobby is still active)
a better quality UAV will most likely be available.

I also looked at the Yuneec Q500 4k but found the range considerably shorter, and having the integrated display in the controller
topped it off... try and put a sun shield on that screen without interfering with controls. It is a much better looking aircraft though!

I got the pro just so i could be future proof, I'm ordering a 4k monitor next, my computer can definitely handle editing it(32gb of ram, 980 TI) but you should consider somone who might have a 4k monitor/tv who might watch your video...

Well i've done it - I've gone and purchased the Pro ;) .. As you say it might be more future proof .. and I hope the future is bright for this bad boy .. if it's anything like the Cheerson CX-20 it will be destroyed within 8 minutes of flying :D ... And my housemate purchased the Yuneec Q500 4K .. So we have the best of both worlds.

Congrats!:)

To be "future proof"? By the time 4K is more commonplace there will easily be another generation of Phantom that will make the Professional obsolete. So paying an extra
$350 for 4K makes little sense. And in terms of a monitor- one wouldn't be able to discern much of a difference between 2.7k and 4K unless the monitor is about 32" based on the laws of optics. So it makes very little sense.

Sorry to hear that your roommate blew over 1 grand on something with shorter range, more restricted altitude and a worse display than a phantom. Looks like you guys got the "worst" of both worlds. You guys could have saved money on purchasing advanced phantoms and then maybe you wouldn't need roommates and could have your own place?

If I had it to do over, I would get a Pro simply for the much higher video downlink bandwidth that was noted earlier in the thread. The Pro's maximum of 10Mbps is much higher than the highest possible (2Mbps) with the Advanced.

Npe. Advanced can set downlink to 10 as well. Adjustable in app.

It shows the adjustment slider yes, but the Advanced still maxes at the DJI listed spec of 2Mbps. The adjustment does not increase the Advanced higher than its maximum possible. The adjustment does however lower the Pro if so desired. Test it yourself if you doubt it, or find the threads where others have already done the testing.
