I've been thinking about RTH functionality, and how to make it better. One thing I've written to DJI and Hubsan about is modifying firmware so max altitude is tracked, and then RTH returns at that altitude.

While not a perfect solution to crashing into something higher than your set RTH altitude (and in the case of the Husan 501S that's whatever altitude the AC is at when RTH activates), it probably eliminates the risk in the vast vast majority of flights.

Thoughts? Other ideas to improve RTH?

I just set my RTH altitude to 400 feet and leave it there. Eliminates the risk of forgetting that it's set too low for a given situation.

Setting RTH higher than needed, can be a problem in a low battery situation when the last thing you need is the battery drain of an unnecessary climb and slow descent.
