Washington, D.C. court ruled Friday(May 19, 2017) that the FAA drone registration rule violates the FAA Modernization and Reform Act, which Congress passed in 2012. Hobbyist John Taylor argued successfully that he should not have to register because the act states that the FAA "may not...
A victory for drone hobbiests everywhere. An appeals court has struck down an FAA ruling that would of required for hobbyist and enthusist to register their drones. The FAA has long been concerned about the safety aspects of flying a drone as many professional pilots complained about a few...
I was in Key West, Florida last week on our annual week in paradise and was surprised to see no less than four individuals flying their drones in the Mallory Square area during the daily sunset viewing. For those not familiar with Key West, it's a 1X4 mile island at the end of the Florida Keys...
I just thought I would share my excitement on my first airspace waiver approval from the FAA! I requested to fly in Chicago Midway's class C airspace on July 8th (90 days from the date I submitted the waiver). I just received a call from (by far) the nicest FAA employee I've ever interacted...
Greetings,
I own a Phantom 3 Pro and have been flying for a few months now here in the Los Angeles area. I am also the cohost of a podcast that focuses on the difference between citizenship under Art. IV of the Constitution and the citizenship created by the 14th Amendment.
While it is a...
So I was just flying my drone a few minutes ago in Waikoloa, HI and a security guy came over and asked if I had a drone pilot license. He said they were required. Is the license he was talking about just the basic recreational FAA registration or is it something else?
Take warning there are a LOT of new Airspace Restrictions now in place across the US. Don't be THAT guy.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has established airspace restrictions over 133 military facilities to address national security concerns about unauthorized drone operations. The...
I recently added my name to a petition to reject the Restrictive Drone Ordinance under consideration by the City of Richmond, California. To my surprise, I received this sincere response from Richmond's Vice Mayor Jovanka Beckles. I wanted to share her email and my response:
"Thank you for...

DJI Calls FAA Data 'Poorly Chosen' and 'Deeply Flawed'
DJI recently issued a white paper expounding upon the relationship between the weight of drones and the risk posed by them, asserting that current FAA regulations are based on "poorly chosen data and deeply...
Want to make contact with other drone owners in the Baltimore/Baltimore County-East area (Canton, Dundalk, Essex, etc.)
Also interested in anyone who is going for, or has acquired their 'Remote Pilot Airman Certificate'.
Cheers,

Last month, I filled out a COA to fly in Class D airspace. I was very specific with where my flight activity would be, and I made sure to explain my safety mitigation plan. I also went into detail about how I will follow the Performance Based Standards. Yesterday a representative from the FAA...
...for Drone360 Magazine. I've posted on other forums and have gotten a lot of responses that run the gamut of "that's dangerous" to "the FAA is too strict." Would love to hear your feedback.

Recent 107 exam passer here, yaya - does anyone using drones in their photography/videography/production business have a link to a good FAA 107 compliant workflow? One you've developed that you'd be willing share, or perhaps your ideas on how to develop a good one?
Like one you can use in...
I found the testing center websites and the FAA's .pdf to be less than convenient, so I made a map of all of the testing centers. The data is taken from the FAA's list and was last updated on 12/14/16.
Link to the map.
I hope it helps!
It doesn't look like anyone posted about this already. This is definitely a big jump for the FAA, although it is not a phantom it's good news!
First drone to fly at an airport with FAA permission
Hey all,
So I'm a creative designer in a rural town of about 16000 people, and I've been approached by a few different departments of the city to do some aerial photography of a few upcoming events. I have not completed the Section 107 certification (it's on my list), so I may just do it for...
I see news articles occasionally about land owners calling the police when a drone flies over "private property.” Yet no one seems to call the police when United Airlines flies over private property.
Is there a limit to private property ownership in the Z-axis (measured in feet)? If so...
