Ackbar, out of curiosity, do you shield the bottom of the copper with anything insulating? I ask because my mods only seem to work when I *don't* insulate the tape.

I also have this problem. The foil mod did not help for me (using foil tape from the hardware store). I'm wondering if switching to the copper tape the use for shielding in guitars will help my situation.

Quick update: Thanks all for the tips. I managed to get the screw out, but not in the prettiest of ways. As suggested, I took a drill to the screw and after a few hours of careful work, ended up obliterating the screw head entirely leaving only the "bolt" intact, and the lid came right off. I...
