    cleaning motors after a crash?

Hey guys- all opinions are appreciated, no need to get cranky with one-another. I've been out of the country for 3 days but later today I'll get a can of compressed air and household vacuum to see what I can clean out before testing the machine.

    cleaning motors after a crash?

Hey Fellows. After 16 months operating my 4Pro I finally crashed. I was on an island on Lake Huron's Georgian Bay, launching from a relatively flat lawn surrounded by forest. About 12 or more minutes into the flight the aircraft dropped into ATTI mode. I flew it home visually but had a heck of...

    Cold Weather Ops

-33C here this morning (-27.4 on that other, err... legacy scale). So, spur of the moment- I decided to launch from my front yard. I used a small piece of plywood as the Launchpad to avoid snowspray and tried to keep gloves on my hands. Half-expecting a battery failure or other issue- I stayed...

    Cold Weather Ops

11.0.3 It started crashing back in the summer but today is the worst I've seen.

    Cold Weather Ops

I thought I'd start a new thread for people to share experiences. I've had my 4Pro for 8 months but now that winter's here I'm facing new challenges. I've completed about 4 or 5 cold-weather flights, 3 of them with snow on the ground. This morning's flight was with an OAT of -18°C. Besides the...

I was just checked by a small aircraft!

With 19,000 hours logged- I can assure you that it would be very difficult to visually pick out an airborne drone unless you accidently popped up VERY close. Flying into places like LaGuardia or O'Hare it's often difficult to pick up other jets flying the approach, there's just too much clutter.

1st Aircraft Drone Strike in Canada?

You're refuting an FAA study at a respected university by a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering? GadgetGuy- you're climbing further and further out on a limb here. From the airline world I can tell you that this is becoming a serious issue. Like it or not- big change is coming to...

1st Aircraft Drone Strike in Canada?

There was a time when GPS was prohibitively expensive. Look at 'em now. Once the current system is redesigned to fit on a chip- mass production will make them affordable. Anyway, like it or not- these sort of things will be mandated at some point in the near future. Maybe not for your drone's...

1st Aircraft Drone Strike in Canada?

Ahh... humour. Argh, argh, argh... o_O We already have "Birdmen" who use a variety of techniques to reduce the risk of bird/aircraft collisions at most major airports. Seriously. It's a 24/7 job, probably pays pretty well and they drive cool trucks. Drones and manned aircraft already share the...

1st Aircraft Drone Strike in Canada?

Well, speculative like most things on this forum, I suppose. But unless you're an aircraft engineer- probably better informed than your speculation. I've had the experience of hitting birds on takeoff with damage to my airplane which forced the discontinuation of my flight with an...

1st Aircraft Drone Strike in Canada?

Actually, it does matter. That 1.8kg bag of flesh and bones is distributed over a certain surface area as it makes impact. Concentrate that mass down to a small enough impact zone and at some point penetration is going to be achieved.

I thought all of Manhattan was a no fly zone?

Although I've flown into places like LGA or EWR many times, that's all been IFR and I'm not familiar with the US regs as they pertain to drones. I live in Canada and all the drone flying I've done here until now has been in uncontrolled airspace. However, I've been asked by friends to snap...

I thought all of Manhattan was a no fly zone?

Interesting. I see that you've been granted exceptions for commercial work. Is it at all possible to do low-level flight inside class C or D airspace with prior permission?
