You can do that.

I'd do a mission 4 miles out,same route, check the wind speed to compare for when you actually fly the 5 plus mile mission, then at least you have some data. Tevek's Idea is excellent also.

I had to watch a few soldering videos and get a decent soldering Iron/kit, but I'm a lot better at it now. There's a video for almost any repair that's needed. Once you start working on it you'll enjoy having it more, its yours you partially built it.

Or just figuring it out and fixing it yourself. DJI may quit supporting standard 3's in the future so it may be a good time now to figure out how to repair the one you have.............IMHO

Wired the battery for it this afternoon but I'm still missing an SMA connector for it. Amazon had it and it was a prime order so it should be here in 3 days or so. Slap some velcro on the bottom of the RC to hold everything and I should be testing it by the 10th.

UPDATE!!!!! Ok, so I had ordered some extra coaxial jumpers back when I ordered an ALFA flat panel directional antenna,(5.8GHZ).I drilled a hole into the new/latest RC and added the omni ARGTEK antenna , from the other RC, everything works. Flew out past the local elementary school at 1800 ft...
