I have the same crack in my Phantom 4, but is smaller of this. My drone is perfect in all other parts and have not crash or hard landings. So I sure is a weakness in the structural design. My Phantom 4 has 3 month and fly very fine.
The problem is not the Phantom 4 firmware version, is the radio controller version. If you update to 1.8 version you will have artifacts. With 1.6 firmware of radio the image is sharp and good.

In my opinion the best results in HDMI fpv for Phantom 4 I obtain with Walkera Goggle 3. The ratio is 4/3 and the image is sharpeness and very good. I love my Walkera Goggle 3. The battery is inside the goggles and the charger was your smartphone charger. The finiture was very fine.

I use Skyreats Windsurfer and a GL300A Radio Controller (old version for Phantom 3 Pro/ADV) with a HDMI module and DJI Go 3.1.3 App version. The range was realized in countryside, beach or laguna ambients at 100-130 feet.

I bought a Walkera Goggles 3 HDMI and I use with my Phantom 4. He works very fine with sharpening color and images. He was very immersive. I love it. Very important, the screen is in 4/3 format and the fov is very good.
It's correct. The video signal had some glitches, but return after a few time. I turned around when I see some red bar in the transmission signal (at 16.000 feet) for prudence, not in automatic RTH. With the original GL300C at 12.500 feet I lost first the radio signal and the video signal too.
