Real, legit, paying your bills, drone business

Super Dave, Congratulations! If you're not in your opinion "living the dream" you're **** near there. I'm just starting a business which will definitely be a side thing until I can retire. I'm in New Hampshire, so unless you really take off, we won't be in competition ;) Would you mind answering...

    Trainer Copter?

Good morning all! With the horror stories in this forum describing the pain of losing your P3 in an uncontrolled landing (putting it mildly), has anyone gone the route of buying a significantly cheaper make or model in order to develop your piloting skills? If so, any recommended airframes?

Looks like if this business is going to get off the ground (pun intended) I'll either need to find a pilot or wait and hope that the FAAs proposed rule on UASs gets approved.

Thanks Mike, of course you are correct. Which license is the easiest to obtain?

Not for flights under 200 feet.

    Newbie with Pre-Purchase Questions

That's just it, I don't think I am confused. I apply for an exemption because I would be a business. If an exemption is granted, it comes with a COA allowing operation up to 200 feet without a license. If I wanted to go over 200 feet that is when a license would be required.

I understand that part. I will need to apply for a Section 333 Exemption. The FAA site states that all such grants of exemption are automatically issued with a blanket Certificate of Waiver or Authorization (COA) allowing for 200 foot ceiling flights nationwide (with certain restrictions around...

Thanks for the help, I'll check out the guidelines. I have looked into the exemption, but I need the make and model to enter into the request (almost there- leaning toward the P3A). Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought I had read that there was a standard exemption that allows for flight up to 200...

    Newbie with Pre-Purchase Questions

Hello All, As a veteran of other forums, I should ask if there is a thread that I should read first before posting further? I haven't purchased yet but am still researching. The plan is to create a side business for real estate listings, social and sporting events, etc. Thank you everyone. Casey

    Is standard worth buying?

Yes, that's correct, that is the formula for distance to the horizon, assuming flat ground (or the ocean's surface).

    Is standard worth buying?

I learned that a human eye can see 2.28 x 1000 yarns x square root of the height of eye. So yes, the average standing adult would see about 5 kilometers, but that same person standing on a step ladder can see much farther. Never thought that aspect of sub training would come back to haunt me ;)

    Is standard worth buying?

Disclaimer - I haven't purchased one yet, but saw that Sears is offering the Standard for $650
