Are drones just a passing fad? Are you bored with your 'Phantom'?

It's like my seven string- sometimes I go months without playing it, but when I think of new ideas or hear something I want to learn, it inspires me to pick it up again.

Are drones just a passing fad? Are you bored with your 'Phantom'?

This. I usually do day long bike trips on summer weekends. I am looking forward to this year having my phantom on my back to capture new areas. I live in a major city and am relatively limited to where I can safely fly, so without effort to get to new places it absolutely can get old. I also...

What are your limits & "Line of sight"

To add, I'm curious as to what is considered a responsible altitude limit to most. Obviously, not considering being around major urban areas or within 5mi of any airports. I have never been higher than 750ft. Was flying in an ex-urban/rural area.

    Battery discharging

Is it better to store the batteries discharged? For example- in winter between light and weather I don't get out to fly too often. When I do, I will spend all of my batteries in flight, and unlike when I use any other camera gear and immediate charge up batteries I just spent when I get back, I...

Compass error nearly every flight- must recalibrate- urban flying?

I live in a major city with many skyscrapers. I usually fly nearby (as in within 5 miles). I have read through all of the compass guides and know that I should not be re-calibrating every flight. But my DJI app requires me to, and usually I have to try the calibration 4-5 times before getting...

Are you guys registering your Phantoms?

Probably not. Just out of principle. I don't plan on doing anything stupid with my quad anyway, nor do I expect the only people who will enforce this (local police) to care.

P3P controller will not update firmware, sits on green light

Thanks for asking- it was 1.2, so I downloaded firmware 1.3 from DJI's site (instead of trying 1.5). It allowed me to install 1.3 via the USB method, and then the app was able to take me to 1.5. I am now on the latest.

P3P controller will not update firmware, sits on green light

In the DJI Go app, it says updates required, the RC controller needs an update, and it can't be updated with the app. I tried updating via SD card, fat32, only the bin file on the card, using a USB adapter, no go. I tried updating via a USB key, no go. I tried updating via connecting a USB...

    Chicago City Council approves restrictions

The 400ft limit is interesting, considering that the FAA (who I guess has sole authority over public airspace) ruled this "The low cost of unmanned aerial vehicles in the 2000s revived legal questions of what activities were permissible at low altitude.[6] The FAA reestablished that public, or...

    Chicago City Council approves restrictions

Disappointing considering I'm just getting into this now. But how seriously is this expected to be enforced, outside of the already common sense no-fly zones around airports and stadiums? I'd guess CPD has their hands full with things far more serious than a drone buzzing by a church. And over...
