Yes, after investigating more I have come to the same conclusion. The area I planned to fly was within 7 km of an international airport. The rapid red flash was just indicating that fact. From what I have read, I would have been completely fine to fly.

It was a brand new one, the original has been sent back to supplier.

*** Update*** I had to replace myH3-3D gimbal. I returned the faulty gimbal to my supplier and waited a week to receive new gimbal. Works fine now. Must have been a calibration issue.
