Dan - I have a P3P not a standard, but my remote doesn't charge via the USB. I use the second end on the battery charger. Just can't charge the battery and the remote at the same time.

Not at all -- you have to do that for firmware upgrades and IMU calibrations as well. I would remove the props just in case someone hit the sticks and accidentally started the motors, but other than that you are all good.

Dan - good to see you onboard. I'm also in the WJCC area. The county allows quad flights at three of their parks - Upper County park in the Toano area, the Chickahominy park off Rt 5, and the Kids-burg area. WISC is off limits when the kids are playing soccer and baseball - obviously. Scott

    The Cost of a Phantom

You also have to consider the software development costs - there is a lot of code in the Phantom, the remote, the apps for multiple device operating systems. That's a huge expense that has to be added to the cost of the hardware. Scott

    3DR CEO Chris Anderson

Here is an interview with the CBS Morning Show - I heard him as a keynote speaker at an IT conference talking about how drones are connected to the cloud - part of the Internet of Things. Very compelling speaker and interesting guy. The story of how 3DR got started was also very cool. I...

    Stuck battery button

So I worked with DJI, got an RMA number and shipped the battery in for repair. They received it on Sept 4th. Today I received this email - - - Upon inspection of your battery we found that the power button is damaged so we are replacing it with a new one. We apologize for any inconvenience...

    Stuck battery button

I worked with DJI Support and just shipped it back for repair/replacement. It should be in their hands today. I'll let you know how things go - but I'm not expecting any issues.

    Stuck battery button

I went to fly tonight and had an issue with one of my batteries. I believe that the button is stuck in the down position. Has anyone had the cover off the battery? Is that even possible? Or am I going to have call into DJI and deal with support? Thanks for any information and help, Scott

    Propeller paintjob!

I don't have near enough patience to do something like this -- but it is really cool.

@dirkclod - All good. Conversations are living things, they can go in different, wild directions.

    First negative encounter this evening

I live in Virginia -- and from the 10 minutes of research I have done there is no law against "chasing deer". The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries "suggest" that you avoid "the urge to chase, herd, flush or make noises" while filming or photographing...

    First negative encounter this evening

#GoodnNuff and @dirkclod -- let me apologize for my poor choice of words when I said that I was "chasing deer". We have all seen videos posted here where someone flies over horses, cattle, elk, etc -- filming the animals. I spotted a group of deer in a field and flew to them, they spooked and...

    First negative encounter this evening

Lighten up Francis! Chasing Deer is better defined as filming them from 50'+ in the air. And the location I was standing, where I took off and landed, was not leased - just the fields. And none of it was leased to him.

    First negative encounter this evening

I found a large field where the corn had been cut and cleared - county property that is leased to a farmer - a really great place to fly because it is more than half a mile in length, a quarter mile wide and has a couple of trees where I can practice orbiting. So this evening I was flying...

Propellers on and off every flight?

I have the GoProfessional case and leave them on all the time. The only time I have removed them is when I have needed to power up the P3P indoors - firmware upgrades, changing/experimenting with app settings, etc.
