How far have you dared fly?

I'm impressed by the guys who put all their faith in their FPV systems and fly using it. Personally I'm not happy if I can't see my drone clearly enough to see which way it is going when I provide some stick input. But that's probably just me.

    Insurance in the UK

Don't know of any insurance packages that will cover you for the loss of your drone. It's possible it may be covered on your household insurance, but it may need to be mentioned specifically in your policy as most 'all risk' clauses need items above a certain value to be named individually...

Phantom 2 - live video viewing?

I fitted an Immersion RC tx on my P2 and use a Black Pearl monitor to receive and view the images for FPV. The other thing I added was a mini iOSD, as the information from this piggy backs on the video transmission and gives you live flight data - height, distance, speed, remaining battery life...

    3 newbie questions

The cable supplies power to your GoPro which is why the red light comes on - it's the equivalent of plugging your battery charger in.

    Phantome 2 non-vision FPV

The Phantom 2 controller operates on the same frequency as the wi-fi on your phone, so it's not recommended to use a phone for FPV with a P2. For the rest, a mini OSD will provide the data you are looking for, and you need a video transmitter to send both the FPV image and the flight data from...

    Live view without gimball?!

I don't know of one personally. Have you tried searching to see if DJI have one you can use?

    Live view without gimball?!

You need a cable to connect the video out from your GoPro to the transmitter you are using to broadcast your FPV.

    Live view without gimball?!

In which case the answer to your question is yes, you can get live view from your GoPro without using a gimbal.

    Live view without gimball?!

The gimbal is not 100% necessary as it's function is to counter the movements of your craft to give you a smooth video. If you mount your GoPro in a solid mount, as you manoeuvre your craft all the tilt and turns of your flight will show up in the video. For example, as you push forward to...

What to do with another aircraft in the area

All I know when I used to fly was that 500 feet was quoted as the minimum in our air rules unless we wanted to run the risk of breaking the law. Never flown military but I doubt they make a habit of flying below 500 feet over populated area.

What to do with another aircraft in the area

Unless they were just taking off or landing they would have been above 500 feet as that is the minimum altitude allowed. It's a good reason not to change the max altitude to be above 400 feet in your Phantom settings as it helps keep any risk of conflict to a minimum.

How to always make forward forward flying?

As has already been mentioned, course lock will do what you want i.e. if you push the right stick forward and your Phantom starts travelling directly away from you, no matter which way you turn your Phantom pushing the right stick forward will always move your drone away from you. Bear in mind...

    Is this a good buy?

I personally wouldn't fly with the dual brackets and 2 batteries either. Whilst it may increase flight times, it puts extra workload on the motors, which could lead to early failure, and the excess weight will make the drone less responsive.

    Aircraft Band VHF Radio?

Frankly, if you see a low flying aircraft heading towards your location, by the time you have worked out what his call sign is and what radio frequency he is operating on, he will have long gone.
