I made a post just above yours. You cannot buy just the quad, you have to buy the entire package.

Vortex Ring State sounds like the most likely culrprit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vortex_ring_state Also, I talked to DJI and they do not sell just the quad.

I had planned on doing something similar, seems to be the best combo of cheap and effective. Have you done water landings with this approach? I'm concerned about stability. I've got this picture in my head of the quad touching down and flipping over.
