That sucks, the customs allowance is a lot more generous in NZ, you should move here instead (I emigrated from the UK 6 years ago).

Could we have one called "Read This Before You Fly" that covers some of the basic common sense stuff? Things like first flights, basic techniques/tips as well as things to avoid like CSC, running the battery completely flat, etc.

In all seriousness could we just make a thread for people to debate the need for/implementation of CSC so that we can keep the trolling and bickering in one place?

No cracks on mine (P3A) but if I had ones like the OP I would return it, for hairline ones I'd not bother but a hole is a bit different.

It can be a bit misleading, my iPad will say "not charging" when it's connected to a regular (rather than high power) USB port but it does actually charge albeit quite slowly.

I'm on your side with this, I think this is 100% user error BUT a simple red A4 sheet of paper with "WARNING" on it and details about the CSC could cut down the number of times it happens. It won't eliminate it since however foolproof you make something there will always be a bigger fool around...
