    My DIY pentalobe antenna

I went to a friend's house yesterday and flew up to 1000ft (max limit set) and out 3000ft and that's when my video started degrading. It was a cloudy day but I'm still happy about my DIY antenna. The FPV video was good enough for me to track down a balloon that I lost while chasing. Because...

Almost crashed my P2 today while chasing a balloon

I was chasing a balloon for fun trying to be careful not to get tangled in the line. It was too far away for a visual so I was using my FPV. I lost it momentarily, then found it again. Thought it was too far away so I accelerated towards it. I approached it a little too fast and then BOOM! This...

    My DIY pentalobe antenna

These antennas are very forgiving to make. Once you get the hang of it, it's not difficult at all. And you can experiment and make a bunch of different types. And it costs under $2 to make.

    My DIY pentalobe antenna

In my case I used 19AWG copper wire. As you can see, I left the insulation on the wire and only stripped where I needed to solder. 19AWG is thick enough so that it holds it shape well. Although I've read that thicker wire is not as efficient. For the coax I used the leftover from what I cut...

    My DIY pentalobe antenna

I had a chance to take my P2 with new antenna for a quick run. Went up 90m (limit due to airport restriction) and out 700m and still had clear video. I lost sight of the bird around 300m, so 700m may be enough for most people. I live in a densely populated area so was hesitant to take it...

    Upgrade transmitter antenna

Get a cloverleaf antenna that is right hand circularly polarized (RHCP) for your TX antenna.

    Antenna orientation

Yep, learning lots. It's interesting how many different DIY antennas there are out there for 5.8GHz FPV. Cloverleaf, skew planar, helical, double helical, yagi, patch/panel, celtic knot. I haven't seen a DIY parabolic yet. I think my next project is a double helical.

    Antenna orientation

Found a good document that describes antennas and their radiation pattern. Interestingly, even if an antenna is omni-directional, it does not mean that you can point the antenna at your bird. For example, the radiation pattern of a standard dipole antenna is worse when you point it at your...

    My DIY pentalobe antenna

Thanks. I waited all afternoon but the drizzling has not stopped. I don't have time tomorrow so looks like I will not be able to test this until Wednesday. I will post my results once I test it.

    My DIY pentalobe antenna

Hello all, Today I decided to build a new antenna. I have built a 3-lobe and 4-lobe cloverleaf/skew planar using the design that was created by IBCrazy. I figured I would use the same measurements and build a 5-lobe antenna. I thought I would share it with the group. Special thanks to...

    Flight concerns

You need to add an FPV (first person view) kit to your Phantom 2. For battery life/altitude info, you also need an OSD. Many people like the DJI iOSD mini. If you don't have a Gimbal/GoPro, and you only want FPV, you might consider this: It comes with a camera and transmitter and cost under...

    Antennas for FPV recommendation

This could be a dumb question, but just trying to help. Did you make sure your TX channel and RX channel were the same? Some of them are very close. For example, I have the TX on my IRC600mw set to the first channel, which is 5740MHz. On my receiver (which is an RX-LCD5802), if I let it...

    Diversity patch antenna mod

I did not find a tutorial online so I just wrote one for you. See attached. How to terminate a right-angle SMA connector.

    Diversity patch antenna mod

That is a right angle SMA crimp connector. The silver cylinder is the crimp sleeve and other part is the cap. Make sure you get the connector for RG58 type coax. I could not find a good youtube video or website describing it. I'll keep looking.
