    Wind speed

One thing to bear in mind is 20 mph wind at the surface may be 35 mph at 100' and at 400' 40+. It is one thing to fly close to the ground in a sheltered environment. Once you ascend you can be in for a big surplice. Check winds aloft, not just surface winds. Here is a link to wind in NE: AWC...

What would you do in this situation?

It is not only flying MRs that you run into people not liking you with a video or even still camera. In decades of commercial video and photography production. I have many times hired local off duty police to be "security" on shoots. And often I have had to obtain permission from Town/City...

    Rescue

My P3P and Eds Mavic found a downed plane that was flown on 72mHz and control was lost. Apparently from interference on his freq. His battery checked out OK after it was retrieved, so be warned flying 72 mHz there may be problems in the area to the right of the soccer field as you approach the...

    RTH accuracy?

Usually 10'. However I have seen 200' error several times and altitude error as well. This is especially true in valleys or areas with tall buildings. Tall trees can cause errors as well. I have also had complete GPS failure. This is why I only fly LOS.

    Drowned my bird, what next?

Depends on your budget. Is it a toy or for business? Personally if I lost my P3P I would go with a P4 as a replacement, though on tight budget you can get just the MR, you already have the TX (controller), that is the cheapest way out, contact DJI. I already have an S800 with Zenmuse with a...

Are you guys (and girls) always shooting in 4k?

I do fine on several MBP's and MPs. Just remember you also need a fast RAID or SSD's. Use FCPX and transcode to Prores422 before editing and you will have no problems at all. I also use a BlackMagic output thunderbolt ExpressStudio and use SDI to display on a pro eval monitor, and at the same...

Are you guys (and girls) always shooting in 4k?

Always 4K, leaves you way more options in post. You can crop in, sharpening works well, pull stills from frames at high res, tweak color more for 1080 delivery. You need a powerful computer though. And yes you need to be very smooth flying, especially pans. I tweak my rates and expo to be very...

Options for getting out of tree

Having helped retrieve RC planes from trees more times than I care to think about. On the average weekend we have 1 or 2 planes get stuck in trees at our AMA RC club. These are the methods we use. Sake the tree, works on small trees sometimes. Cut down the tree, sometimes we have cut 2 or 3...

P3A fell out of sky... can someone look at data and explain???

Sorry for your loss, it would be helpful to get a look at the logs to help explain what happened. I would say that it is safest to always take off with a fully charged Lipo (battery). I almost always do. The only time I may fly without a fully charged Lipo is if I just had a short flight down...

Range Anxiety - What's your comfort range?

There is nothing illegal about a manned aircraft flying 8' or less above the ocean or a lake. There is no minimum altitude for aircraft. The only rule is 500' from any person or property, that is distance, not AGL. I often fly my Cardinal 100' or less above water. Also what frequency do you...

Range Anxiety - What's your comfort range?

The big problem with out of visual range and you if have no visual on the MR or the airspace around it, is you can't see if another manned aircraft like a helicopter or low flying plane is in the area. Med Evac helis fly everywhere at any time, and you are required to get out of their way. If...

    Does humidity affect range?

A GA pilots perspective. The four H's that contribute to lower performance of any aircraft: Hot Humid High Altitude Heavy (this is your payload, so it will not affect a P3 unless you mod it) These all make your aircraft work harder for the same performance. Hot is part of what is called...

    ND filter experts wanted

You should always try to keep iso as low as possible, increasing iso will add noise (or grain as it is sometimes referred as). If the ND8 still has you at a 1/250 shutter speed then go to ND16. As long as you do not fly very fast close to objects or pan quickly upping the shutter speed is OK...

    ND filter experts wanted

When in manual mode, you use iso or shutter speed (as well as ND filter before takeoff) to set your exposure according to the histogram and the way the monitor looks. This is done using the right wheel on the TX. By turning it you increase or decrease iso or shutter speed, by pushing down on the...
