Better Marketing Tip: Improve Your Website's SEO

Welcome, Quelana. Good to hear that you have been careful in the development of your website. It is a very important asset. Here are some things to consider:

Drone pilot as a new career ????

Apologies to those who find this repetitive, but there is a lot more to running a successful drone company than pushing two joy sticks around. Are you up to speed with a marketing plan? Have you selected a target market? Are you knowledgeable with camera operations? How 'bout video editing? Have...

    Flight Over People

Yes, parachutes. Just not as an end-user add-on. I don't believe any individual will be able to certify his/her existing aircraft by adding an aftermarket parachute. Maybe that will change, but that's how it looks to me at this time.

    Flight Over People

A parachute does sound like a reasonable way to address the problem of energy transfer in a crash. But because of the way the regs are worded, IMHO, you will NOT be able to self-certify your existing drone to a Category by adding a third-party parachute recovery system to it. Maybe this will...

    Interesting report. Thanks, skymonkey.

    Flight Over People

The Phantom cannot currently qualify as any category. This requires testing and a Declaration of Compliance from the manufacturer. So for flight over people, I'm afraid you're out of luck. Sorry...

Flying at an angle to the wind to make headway into the wind, how or why does it apparently work?

Correct, it doesn't work. Your drone is flying in a moving airmass. It doesn't matter which direction it is going. It can only cover ground into the wind at a specific ground speed. You cannot compare it to a sailboat which is attached to the surface.

Changes Are Coming to the Part 107 Test

Again, if you don't understand what the runway numbers mean and don't know how to listen to the radio and interpret where an airplane is, it prevents you from safely flying near an airport. Now you can argue that you don't fly near airports anyway. But your certificate allows you to do that, so...

Changes Are Coming to the Part 107 Test

Hi, jmaeding. The original post did originate with Gold Seal (a forum sponsor), but calling it an obvious "plug" is a bit off base in my opinion. I provided an important article about changes. Of course it comes from Gold Seal, but there was no "buy" message in there. It is simply important...

Changes Are Coming to the Part 107 Test

Hi, Skip. Several misconceptions here. Practical Test - There will be no Practical Test anytime soon. The reason is that Part 107 does not distinguish between heavy-life multi-rotors, small quadcopters, fixed wing airplanes, and even gliders and lighter-than-air. That is, unlike with manned...

Changes Are Coming to the Part 107 Test

Plenty of people make real money with their drone work. But as with most entrepreneurial professions, there will be more failures than successes. It take a special mindset to build a profitable company from nothing. Licensure, or actually "certification" in this case, is only the first step of...

Changes Are Coming to the Part 107 Test

I agree 100%. The problem in the past has been that too many folks have memorized the questions/answers and used that as their study strategy. With a complete revamp of the testing software, that won't work in the future. But like you said, know the concepts and it won't matter how the question...

Changes Are Coming to the Part 107 Test

Questions are currently being changed and reworded on a regular basis. This means that it will become more and more likely that you'll see questions on the FAA exam that you've never seen before. Know the concepts, however, and it won't matter how they are worded. But the bigger news is the...

The FAA websites are notorious for frequently changing links. I'd suggest you start here to find the document you want: https://www.faa.gov/uas/commercial_operators/part_107_waivers/
