I think it has propeller guards on, which would provide some protection when hitting a building. I would think without these it would not have survived as long.
I've taken it to a local field several times, and I would say I'm reasonable at flying the thing. However I agree flying over water is certainly a much more complex/risky maneuver.
Having read all the comments I am not going to attempt the balcony flight, or even a flight close to the building...
