I had a thread called "Landing pad ideas" that shows how I made it. Not sure how to link to it but it shows my progress.

Here is a video of my pad that is finally completed. The video shows take off and climbing to 200 feet. Very easy to spot and fun to build.

I forgot to mention weighs right at 9 lbs. I walk out my front door and fly since I am surrounded by open farmland as far as you can see. If I had to go somewhere to fly I probably would have made it a bit smaller.

This really works great. Other than time I have about $20 in it. I have a woodworking shop and do metal fabrication as a hobby. I mainly fly around dusk and it really looks cool coming back to land.

I have this problem on my iPad air 2. For some reason it will not connect to the app or site using the 4g connection. I have to turn on the hotspot on my phone and use that connection. Both work great that way. My android phone, PC and MacBook Pro do not have this problem. Not sure why...
Here are the pictures of the bottom of the pad. The bottom is what you actually see from above. The leds are pointed down and illuminating the white paint on it. I imagine you could paint the inside of the bottom piece a different color to get different colors from above. You can also see the...
There is no dust that is blown up. The pad has a wood bottom. The wind exits the side holes. No wind blown down vertically hits the ground. Goes in the box and out the sides. I will post another picture with the bottom attached this evening.

I manually landed with GPS and VPs on. First time not using an old piece of plywood. It did not dance around as much just before landing with the holes.

I have almost finished my pad. Here are a few more pictures. I got the led strips on eBay for $12. Got the 2 - 9 volt connectors at Radio Shack. Pack of 5 for $3. Used high gloss white paint so it really put out a lot of light. Flew last night and really looked cool coming in. I bought a pack of...
Great idea. I have a few of those type flashlights I use on my farm for spotting my cows at night. You are not kidding about the mile visibility.

I got it earlier this evening. It made a point to say it was for iPad only. I am new to Apple but wonder if it won't show up in the app store if you are not on a iPad.

I like the iPad Air 2. Bought the metal Inspire 1 bracket from eBay $16. Replaced the plastic one. It came in 3 days from Texas. It really makes a huge difference. No wobbling and feels very sturdy.
