I had a little hubsan drone but it wasn't very satisfying to use. I the went straight to the P3S and now have a P3A.
Also been considering getting CAA qualified and doing commercial work. Do you mind me asking who you're doing the course with? I think it could be a good business opportunity and...
I can start and stop the motors. When I tried earlier with cyberduck it wouldn't connect to 1.2, only 1.1.

It's very odd as the controller will start the drones motors and I can get a video feed, just no other data from the drone in the app. Can't link the controller despite everything.
Do you mean permissions when editing the files henick? I didn't check that - kicking myself for it now. Just wish...
Going to try again now but it's not looking hopeful. I take all responsibility for attempting this but I've followed it perfectly and I've used ftp software before. I'm at a loss as to what's gone wrong.

Thanks guys. I've installed the bin file to the root directory and powered up the drone. I have flashing yellow lights and constant screeching sounds! I've left it like this in the hope it's reinstalling the firmware? I don't remember these noises before. Not like this anyway!
OK, so here's where I am. I CAN connect to 192.168.1.1 (the controller) but the controller will not connect to the drone and I can't access it via 192.168.1.2.
Have tried re linking the two and that has failed too.
Managed to attempt this but controller now won't connect to drone - ****. Any ideas?
I edited the rcs file as per the instructions and uploaded the file to remote and drone.
I was in a similar position and I got the Phantom3 standard. If you can afford the advanced then go for it but for me this is the perfect setup and blows me away with how good the whole thing is.
I got a skysurfer and half a mile range is easily possible, I'm in the uk too.
I may get a DBS...
In car battery charger for a 10th of the price of another battery (if, like me, you can't justify buying one - yet). Prop guards. Gimbal guard. All in $50 (£30) ish.
Took the bird up again tonight and got 1800ft away. Just using a skysurfer at the moment and I'm well happy with that. DBS is going to happen though as this is addictive!
I'm in the UK too. With a windsurfer I'm at about 4-500m range before video drops.
I think adding DBS is the best option. I've read around this a LOT and that's my conclusion.
All the best!
