I doubt it. I haven't had the best luck tracking changes made through the different phantom versions but the upgrade kit is most likely a byproduct of designing the phantom vision and is really only needed for gimbal control and video output. I'm probably wrong though, from a manufacturing point...
Wow, im guessing you haven't upgraded anything else?
The very first flight I ran with the gimbal was really short so I assumed it was a slightly diminished battery pack, a fresh battery fixed it. With upgraded motors, it lasted about 5-10 minutes. I haven't really kept track of the time though...

You could probably build your own, mine would include a flashing beacon and leds.
Understandable, it wouldn't be that hard. You lose part of the safety aspect of a solid disconnect but I would consider it. If you were crazy, you go with an LED switch that is "lit" to let you know the system is almost ready for flight.
