Woman tries to scare off drone with gun

As you said, she didn't fire the weapon. And at this point, I don't believe there is a law against pointing a weapon at (aka threatening) a UAS. Only bad if you actually shoot it down. Personally, the threat would have gotten me out of there, albeit I wouldn't have been in someone's backyard...

    Contacting airports about flying

Biggest issue I have had is finding the right person to inform. Most of the flying I do isn't near an "airport" per se, but is near a helipad (typically operated by a hospital) which counts as an airport according to everything I have read. Most often, I have ended up with the security...

Trouble Contacting an airport. Advice would be appreciated.

When I called one of the hospitals near me (they have a helipad) to let them know they tried to tell me no one would authorize my flight. I politely told them they dont have the authority to tell me no, I am simply informing them. I did finally get the right person at the second hospital...

Called FAA today about max ceiling

Note, what you included is the "short version". If you read the slightly longer version, you can go over 400ft, if you stay within 400' of a structure - "Maximum altitude of 400 feet above ground level (AGL) or, if higher than 400 feet AGL, remain within 400 feet of a structure." My assumption...

    Traveling with drone

I've traveled with my phantom 3 several times. I use the DJI branded Monfrotto backpack (sorry not an ad) and I like it for convenience (backpack style) and accessibility. Security - I'm TSA Pre-check, so I typically get to go through short lines, but be prepared to be stopped. I've been...

    Casual FAA Violations

As a recreational pilot, I registered my drone (UAS) on the FAA website. This site is where the 400' ceiling comes into play, but note, if you read it carefully (the summary of small aircraft rule part 107) you will note it states "Maximum altitude of 400 feet above ground level (AGL) or...

    Drone Photography-Night Cityscape Tutorial.

How does one get permission to fly at night? The $5 "registered drone with the FAA" says I can't fly at night. Just curious what level/license would I need to get to be able to fly at night? Thanks!

    Prop balancing.

The only thing that I can think of is that when they machined the threads, the threads are off center to the centerline of the balancing shaft. This would effectively make the center of gravity for the prop on one side of that centerline and the shaft would rotate until that off balance side is...

    Prop balancing.

So, I think my balancer may be out of alignment. It works great for the silver tipped props (not sure which threading it is), but when I put the black props tipped on, it always shows a hub out of balance. I put a mark on the balancing rod, tried with three props and the mark always turned to...

P4 first flight making me nervous

I'm a relative new flyer too. Use beginner mode when you start out. Restricts you to 30m high and 30m radius from you. You can change at any time in the app, but it works well. Fly in an open field and the drone will keep you in bounds. Sent from my iPhone using PhantomPilots

    Birds from China?

DJI is a Chinese company based in Schenzen. Doesn't mean there aren't knock offs, but beware of anything that sounds too good to be true. It likely is. DJI has some great Black Friday deals on their website (at least for US), so now is the time to buy. Sent from my iPhone using PhantomPilots
