I think his rant is not about how to choose your first machine, but about the desire to upgrade with the latest and greatest when you've already got one that can still do the job.

The Moverios have a touchpad/mouse interface. Just mount the controller in place of a phone and operate from there. A bit more clunky of course, but works.

The adapter can charge the phone only while not being used to fly, unless you're using the short range WiFi link.
