    The Future of Phantom

There very likely will not be an update to either the Phantom or Inspire until 2020 when DJI starts adding ADS-B to its models. Even if there is, I would personally wait until ADS-B models are out just for future-proofing.

The state of South Dakota (USA) has it correct.

South Dakota also gets two million visitors a year...

DJI will be adding airplane & helicopter detectors to drones in 2020

What will happen to the tens of thousands of existing UASs with no way to retrofit the technology; will my P3P be grounded or grandfathered?

Part 107? Here's how to file for Airspace Authorizations

Interesting, so you had no difficulty getting an authorization for Class B airspace?

    I live 2.1 miles from a Class D airport

I live a couple of miles south of Paine Field (and also sometimes fly at a park about three miles to the north)and have not had any issues with launching either my P3P or Mavic in the area, I just acknowledge the warning that pops up in the app. Of course if I got close enough to the field, the...

How likely is it that a major airport will grant you permission for about 50 -100 feet nearby?

I believe that if you email [email protected] and ask for an unlock of an airport NFZ, they can send you a special custom version of the GO app that will allow you to fly there. You're probably going to need to add some kind of verification from the airport confirming you aren't just some yahoo...

    Following the rules

Off-topic, but I'm glad to hear that the 74S admin doesn't mind flights if they're notified; I've been wanting to take a quick flight from Cap Sante Park once it finally stops [expletive] raining for the spring/summer. I live a few miles south of Paine Field, and I've flown multiple times out...

Recreational Operation in Class B Airspace

Whenever I see the term "major airport" in a FAA document, I generally assume they're talking about the ones listed in Appendix D.

FAA now has jurisdiction over military installations?

According to the ruling you can still fly in those areas as long as you have permission from the controlling agency, which is pretty much how it worked before.

Footage taken during a Hobby Flight...

This has come up a few times before; I think if you search for "furtherance of a business" you'll get some results. Basically, if you're flying because you're doing something that will contribute to a business, even if you aren't getting directly compensated, it'll need to be under part 107...

Can we fly in National Forests?

Yeah, there's no real problem with flying in a national forest (as long as you aren't being an idjit)... as long as you aren't also in a designated Wilderness Area, which is still a strict no-no. Also, try not to bug the wildlife if you can help it. Especially the bears.

    Auto takeoff

Auto-takeoff can be handy if you just want to give it a quick visual once-over before sending it on its way.

    Am I a Bad Hobbyist?

If the hospital was only going to use the photos internally, like in a newsletter or something, there's probably not much the FAA can do about it. But, if they use them as promotional material on their website or the like, then it's what the FAA considers "furtherance of a business" which...

Aerial footage of Meteor Crater in Arizona (plus some drama)

As noted it's actually privately-owned land, so they could prohibit you from taking off from the visitor center but can't really prevent you from flying *over* the crater...though I imagine they're not crazy about that either. Especially since it's already been the site of a crash. I visited it...

Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against DJI Over Firmware Issues
