There very likely will not be an update to either the Phantom or Inspire until 2020 when DJI starts adding ADS-B to its models. Even if there is, I would personally wait until ADS-B models are out just for future-proofing.

Whenever I see the term "major airport" in a FAA document, I generally assume they're talking about the ones listed in Appendix D.

Yeah, there's no real problem with flying in a national forest (as long as you aren't being an idjit)... as long as you aren't also in a designated Wilderness Area, which is still a strict no-no. Also, try not to bug the wildlife if you can help it. Especially the bears.

As noted it's actually privately-owned land, so they could prohibit you from taking off from the visitor center but can't really prevent you from flying *over* the crater...though I imagine they're not crazy about that either. Especially since it's already been the site of a crash. I visited it...
