If you look at a declination map, you quickly realize why the polar circle is a challenge... but more so in some areas than others.
Nome, AK isn't really too much of a challenge. Now if you were in Nunavut, it might be different :-)

Re: Gopro film settings
I like to shoot with my H3+ Black at 2.7K 30fps Medium FOV with an ND filter. Most of the time, I can't see the props themselves and the ND filter slows the shutter so that you don't get prop shadows across the lens making for the venician blind effect at certain...
If you're looking for AMA RC clubs, you can go to the AMA website and search by zip code... http://www.modelaircraft.org/clubsearch.aspx is the link.
I note that your profile indicates you're in Georgia. There's a Google Map that shows various locations of AMA field and "rogue" fields that...
My experience (empirical) is this: When you power up the Phantom and let it establish Home Point (fast blinking green lights), that elevation becomes 0 (zero) altitude. All subsequent altitudes are reported RELATIVE to Home Point. The Phantom barometric pressure to calculated altitude.
What...
Altitude is always height above Home Point. Home Point is always 0m altitude. Everything else is relative to that. So if at the rim of the canyon you initialize your Phantom (power up and establish Home Point) and fly 10m above HP and out over the canyon, your altitude is still 10m.
I have the P2 non vision with GS. My neighbor has the P2V+ with the WiFi extender. There are definite differences in the two apps. Perhaps the biggest one for me is the ability to plan a mission "offline" on the iPad, save it, then go out and fly it later, maybe days later.
But I'm not sure...
All excellent tips! I especially endorse the idea of the start and end waypoints being close to HomePoint. The other thing to note, at least it's my experience, is when creating missions, the default appears to be to Loop the mission. Fine if that's what you want, but it could get your heart...
No. It doesn't work that way. I have a P2 w/GS -- and iOSD, AVL58 and the Datalink. It's a bit of a pain vs Vision+, but the GS app has some functionality that the Vision+ app doesn't offer.
If you're taking about Phantom 2 (not the Vision+), Ground Station is for autonomous flight - that is flying preprogrammed waypoints. It does not provide the video downlink needed for FPV. You would need a separate video transmitter on the Phantom and a receiver & monitor .
.
Be sure to use BANK turns... it doesn't appear to do it with adaptive turns or stop & turn. Just trying to confirm that it's expected performance.
Speed doesn't seem to be a factor as I did a test flight at 5 m/s and had the same experience.
I've been trying to figure this one out and not having much luck.
When I map a mission with a turn greater than 90*, I seem to get this weird twitch (see video). You can hear something odd in the motor speeds as well at the turn.
The video shows the same turn in two consecutive passes/loops...
Go Home still functions as Fail Safe with a loss of radio control signal (like a controller being shut off).
It's the low battery option to Go Home that Jason is referring to.
