    FAA Sued

This seems more like a publicity stunt than anything, the 'lawsuit' is simply asking a court to review the final rule and asks for nothing else and only provides a copy of the rule itself. As they have yet to show damage, the issue of standing will be an interesting point to watch. Secondly...

How Old are you and what Phantom Do you have?

I'll be 56 at the end of the year and just picked up a refurbished Phantom 4 Advanced to add to the DJI quads that I already have (a Phantom 3 4K and a Phantom v1.1.1). I've been acting as an observer for one of the local 107 pilots and have decided to get a 107 myself and needed more than what...

Picture from my Drone made the News

I had been wondering how the FAA handled it if you sell photography from a flight that was recreational, it looks like they came down on the side of common sense on this issue. But the FAA memo (FAA Memo on Media Use of FAA) also says: "Evidence that may indicate an individual's true...

    Using gasoline inversion generator

The OP never stated whether this was a day trip into the wild, or if it involved staying one or more nights (unless I just missed it). If it were a day trip a good option would be to buy more battery packs to have on hand (charged the night before), a DJI car charger and one of those small car...

    1. Have to read that as DJI "4 propeller" drone, not as DJI 4 "propeller drone". At first glance it does look as though they are talking about a Phantom 4, but on viewing the pictures and seeing a Phantom 1, one would go back to the text and see that it's a "4 propeller" drone.they are talking...

Going high. Wanting to go 1500 ft up

Ignore him, he's taking the example to the extreme simply in an attempt to undermine the particularly relevant point you made about choosing your actions wisely. Sanity incorporates the ability to understand differences and similarities, and it's senseless to argue with someone who ignores those...

Going high. Wanting to go 1500 ft up

That pretty much nailed it! As a community we need to lead by example, and invading controlled airspace with (comparatively speaking) toys is simply the WRONG example. If we want respect, we need to respect the national airspace ourselves. No excuse not too...

Going high. Wanting to go 1500 ft up

You need to be careful flying that high (at least in the US, but I would suspect for other countries as well)! If you enter controlled airspace (and 1500ft would put you smack into Class E airspace in most areas of the country) then you are actually breaking the law and the FAA has shown that...

Illegal to fly under 400 foot?

In Causby the Supreme Court said that "The landowner owns at least as much of the space above the ground as they can occupy or use in connection with the land." One could easily construe that to mean the FAA has no say in the matter as long as you don't intrude into airspace that IS controlled...

Illegal to fly under 400 foot?

Well, he's wrong. I don't think this has actually been resolved yet though, and he can make your life miserable in the meantime while it gets sorted out.

Illegal to fly under 400 foot?

Not necessarily so, as the airspace classifications are per treaty and law. Class G airspace (starting at the ground) is uncontrolled, so the FAA can never really "own" it, regulate it or place restrictions on it (it would then be a different class of airspace if they did). There are areas such...
