As an airline pilot for 18 years, ATC would point out aircraft at 5 miles and it was difficult to detect. How in the world could anyone detect a drone?

Although that is true, fixed-wing aircraft can also go below 500 feet in sparsely populated areas.

I have been a (manned) pilot for 46 years and no accidents, but I was IN the aircraft, actually manipulating controls and had a much better visual sense of my surroundings. In RC, many people with with no experiece, are self taught. Not so in commercial or military aviation
