Hi everyone. A member emailed me the following question: "I've been asked by a family member if I can take pictures at weddings and other events for their photography business for a profit." Unfortunately, the short answer is "no." Please do an internet search for "AC 91-57," and "Section 336...

Please visit this webpage: http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/field_offices/fsdo/ Find a FSDO (Flight Standards District Office) near you. Call them, and ask to speak to an Operations Inspector about current drone regulations. They will repeat what I have said.

Why would I give out my real name in this day and age of idenitiy theft--especially since I've gotten so many angry with me? How does my remaining anonyomous detract from my message? I'm flattered that you think a government employee is "more important than others." Nothing could be further from...

Thank you. Look, let's all be realistic:say you are operating in rural Montana at 500 feet. Technically that's illegal--despite what most of you believe.I agree, while illegal, it's not much of a hazard. But, many operators operate near Laguardia airport in NYC at 500 feet. That is very...

Thanks for your support. Many drone operators don't realize they are operating in "Class B" airspace when they operate next to a busy airport. This in itself IS a violation of a Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR). Please do an internet search for "Class B airspace" for those of you who do fly...

Well, thank you for at least being civil, and not going after me personally. While it is true that Advisory circulars are "Advisory," if you act in a way contrary to one and are caught, you can face a civil fine. I think someone looked at one of the forum's members' flight log and photographs...

Why does it matter if I am a government employee or an internet troll? It is WHAT I have been saying that is relevant: the FAA's UAS website, the Model A/C Advisory Circular and the NTSB's decision on the Pirker case. Everyone is too busy slamming me instead of seriously addressing those issues.

Nothing in your reply had any relevance to our current discussion. Have you even visited the links or researched the topics I have suggested?

I think the point of the NYC law is that only airplanes can land and takeoff at airports. All other operations are illegal. I am merely attempting to spread the FAA's position--not mine personally--about the laws regarding drone operations.

I agree: Only aircraft taking off or landing fly from 400-1000 feet. But do you know how many reports this office receives every week of drones being spotted by airline pilots as they ARE taking off and landing? Don't you all agree this is a hazard? Why are some drone operators operating near...

    1. What about the NYC law banning drones? 2. In the "Pirker case" the NTSB ruled that drones are aircraft--and all rules that apply to aircraft apply to drones. As counterintuitive as it sounds, you need a pilot's license, etc. Your quote above is incorrect except that yes, we do not have a...

Our office received a complaint from an individual against a member of this forum who posted pictures and a flight log alleging JFK at 3000'. Honestly that's all I know. It is our duty to investigate each such complaint.

Thanks very much. I do appreciate the support. I hope you can convince your colleagues to operate safely. Interestingly, New york City has a law separate from the FAA's banning ALL UASs in the city! Please search for "NY ADC Law 10-126."

I was unaware that other FAA employees (or at least others claiming to be with the FAA) have also posted. PLEASE let me just say this: 1. go to www.faa.gov/uas. 2. Research th "Pirker case." 3. I am HAPPY to help in any way I can. 4. What you all may or may not know is that when drone...
