I think this is a great change. I'd much rather have it set up this way so I don't have to worry about a friend trying out my phantom somehow managing to execute a csc by accident.
Can you imagine being a manufacturer or reseller of third party phantom batteries and seeing this update come out? That would suck. All your inventory is instantly worthless.
I have automatic app updates disabled on my iPad and use iTunes to download and keep a copy of every dji go version that comes out so that I can always roll back if I don't like an update that comes out. Just a good practice to do with this product.
Maybe I ought to take my phantom down there and get some footage and see if I get similar results in views. I live up in Henan province and haven't made it down to Guilin yet.
Yeah, power lines were my first thought too, because that's what I'm more paranoid of than anything. I'll be very impressed if it reliably dodges those as well.
I wouldn't pay $1,400 to upgrade from my P3P, but if I didn't have my P3P already, I would be willing to pay out the extra $400 for the obstacle avoidance. I think that's probably $400 better spent than buying some insurance policy on a P3.
Do Inspires fly away too? I would assume so, but I haven't read much about them.
I'm wondering if the pause button on the phantom will stop the fly away momentarily. Can you imagine realizing that you're entering a fly away situation, hit the pause button, and then just sit there realizing...
I've come close to forgetting to bring one. Thankfully I have a preflight checklist that has a packing list that I run through every time before I walk out my door.
And don't run your phantom battery below 30%... And many people recommend only taking it down to 50% the first 10 flights. I don't know if you've read that much yet or not...
