Thanks for pointing that out, I must have missed that. I'll be sure to pay more attention to those warnings in future. Is that why RTH failed and the drone auto landed?

Yes, I flew out once, got a RTH, let it come back some and cancelled the RTH then flew out in a slightly different direction before disaster struck. I had cancelled RTH before without any issue. The drone was newish, first flown around the beginning of the month and the battery was new as well...

I was resigned to that fact that most likely the drone was already dead or looking at a costly repair. My motivation was to help understand why it happened. If I had found it and it helped me and others not go through a loss again, it's would have been a win. Anyway it was a nice couple of hours...

I can see that hovering is better than auto landing but my RC Signal Lost was set to RTH which it didn't do, it just Auto Landed. So if it did that because of loss of GPS, is that when fail safe should kick in?

I can't see in my Healthy Drones log where is says there was 26 mph winds. Can someone point me at that please? I see it says gusts of up to 20.7 mph which I understand it also too high but when I took off and where I took off from the wind was not that high. Dirk's advice is spot on, thanks.

I will also do that in future, another lesson from this experience Yep, I'll think twice about that in future. The first two comments had some value, this one was unnecessary. A loss is a loss no matter who it happens too. And no I can't afford boos boos but I'm trying to learn from them.

Again, thank you for your input. That makes sense. If it was unable to find the home point, that would indicate a loss of GPS wouldn't it? From your experience, is that likely? Does it happen often?

Unfortunately I couldn't find it. 4 feet of water in that spot and is is dark brown, low visibility so I couldn't see it. Tried netting for it but it is the proverbial needle in a haystack. It was a long shot but I tried.

I'm about to venture out on my boat to look for it. Really hope I find it. Wish me luck!

I really appreciate your input. As I lost contact with the Phantom, wouldn't we expect the log to just end? Why would there be anymore entries after a lost of contact event?

It's a freshwater lake. I may give this a go. Thanks. Anyone know how accurate the last known co-ordinates are? If they are as accurate as the home position etc. I'd be hopeful it could be found. I'm assuming it did actually continue to land in that spot.

Does anyone know if anything can be recovered from a wet drone? I doubt anything is usable but as far as following up with DJI, is there any value in trying to recover it? Water depth is about 4 feet there I estimate. It may be possible to find it based on the last known co-ordinates.

I was using an iPad Air 2 with wifi and cell. When this happened, I got the lost RC message and the video went out, that's it. Normally it would reconnect within a few seconds once RTH was activated. After about 30 seconds my heart sank and I had a feeling something was up. Starting walking...
