I was at the same point as you and I went for the P3A for my son. For the money light bridge and a cleaner controller layout was worth it to me. Not having to worry about wifi interference was a huge selling point for myself.

As a father that did buy his son a P3A you've made up your mind to get him one and I support you. You know him better then we do. My son and I have a ball with his P3A. Do it!

It depends on your friends son. What other RC devices have he drove/flown? I got my son a P3A and we've not had any issues. My son has been driving cars since he was 3 and planes since he was 8.
