Did you ever get the data structures for DJI's FLY.DAT file? I could use them. If not, I am working on documenting them and writing a parser in Python. Thanks.

UAV incident report and submission form

Good morning, Why do you think I am trolling? I am a cyber security professional with 10+ years in cyber investigations, a rated pilot (fixed and rotor), and a UAV pilot (3 DJIs and one E384.) I am legitimately interested in learning more about accident rates and other incidents relating to...

How to wire in 2nd battery, or AC w/ inverter

Greetings, I want to run a Phantom Vision 2+ on the bench for long periods of time. Ideally, I'd set up an AC/DC inverter, but even a second battery would help. What I am not clear on is how to wire this into the wiring harness on the aircraft. If anyone can point me in the right direction...

    Malware for drones

Greetings, Worth reading, particularly since this is just the tip of the iceberg. This is malware that can completely take over your sUAS. http://garage4hackers.com/entry.php?b=3105 -David

Pilot says drone put Seahawks, fans in danger

Greetings, You really think that after many years of helicopters flying over major metropolitan areas with very few incidents that they will be considered a hazard to persons or property? Helicopters do not glide, they autorotate, and do so rather well. Unlike drones, someone is still in...

    Drone wars...

There are a lot of reasons it could work, and will. First off, the military needs this capability so it will (or already has) happened. Secondly, the components are there - RF tracking, vision systems, autopilots, etc. Flying UAVs is a legal nightmare at the moment. Except radio jammers are...

WTB Phantom 2 with Bluetooth datalink

Greetings, I would like to buy a -gently- use Phantom with a Bluetooth data link to mount a fixed (i.e., no gimbal, no FPV) downward facing camera to use for small mapping projects. If anyone has a complete setup in good condition, please let me know. Thank you. -David

    ATC

Greetings, Speaking as a helicopter and fixed wing pilot, I do tend to worry about people even thinking about exploring the limits of flying near an airport. Consider the following: "(d) Helicopters, powered parachutes, and weight-shift-control aircraft. If the operation is conducted without...

    Flying in snow?

Greetings, I've done this for R&D purposes. It is quite doable but your battery life will be lower, possibly significantly so. Keep the batteries warm before flying. Also, invest in gloves without fingertips. -David

Wind - how much is too much?

Greetings, The video demonstrates the greatest risk of flying in strong winds - landing and taking off. Despite what another poster said, I would -NOT- attempt to hand catch a quad copter in high winds. The risk of unplanned machine-man interaction is too great. -David

    Cold Temp Flights : 14'F or -10 C.

Greetings, I flew last night in 10 degree F and light snow conditions for about ten minutes with no issues. I did stay pretty close to the ground. DJI's caution is probably due to the effect of cold on batteries, and perhaps on the software's lack of ability to compensate for this. The icing...
